Work visa

There are three different situations. Please read this and choose the one that suits you.

Important Note:
Work visas can not be extended by Indian missions abroad. The renewal is made exclusively by the local authorities.

A: Work visas are issued to people who want to work in India. The visa is approved and issued by the Indian Missions for the duration of the employment contract or up to two years. The annual salary should be at least $ 25,000.00. Within 14 days of arrival in India, the applicant is required to  register if his or her stay is longer than 180 days.

  1. Original passport, valid for at least 180 days and with two free pages. Printed or already stamped pages do not count.
  2. Two identical photos in Indian format 5 x 5 cm (Requirement of photograph for download)
  3. Completed application form
  4. employment contract
  5. Proof of qualification (Cert., Certificates etc.)

  7. Additionally required documents  for Afghan, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Pakistani, Nigerian, Somali, Iranian, Iraqi, stateless citizens and former.
  8. The Indian Consulate General may also request additional documents.

B: Persons who wish to perform voluntary (voluntary social year) work organized by a non-governmental organization will receive visas valid for up to one year. They are allowed to receive a maintenance allowance of up to Rs. 10,000. An extension of the visa is carried out by the locally competent Indian authority.

  1. Original passport, valid for at least 180 days and with two free pages. Printed or already stamped pages do not count.
  2. Two identical photos in Indian format 5 x 5 cm (Requirement of photograph for download)
  3. Completed application form
  4. Invitation of the Indian organization with the prospective activities of the applicant in the scope of the voluntary service with the exact duration.
  5. Commercial Register of the Indian Company / Organization / NGO
  6. A registration of the Indian organization issued by MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) under FCRA (Foreign Contribution Act).
  7. Guarantee issued by the parents.
  8. Identity card copies or passport copies of the parents.
  9. Birth certificate of the applicant in copy.
  10. Additionally required documents  for Afghan, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Pakistani, Nigerian, Somali, Iranian, Iraqi, stateless citizens and former.
  11. The Indian Consulate General may also request additional documents.

C: Persons wishing to do handicraft work (installations of machinery) in India receive a visa for the duration of the activity or up to one year from the Indian representation.

  1. Original passport, valid for at least 180 days and with two free pages. Printed or already stamped pages do not count.
  2. Two identical photos in Indian format 5 x 5 cm (Requirement of photograph for download)
  3. Completed application form
  4. A formal letter from the sending company in Germany informing about the duration, purpose of the trip and the assumption of costs.
  5. A formal invitation from the Indian company informing about the duration and purpose of the trip. (All writing in English)
  6. Additionally required documents  for Afghan, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Pakistani, Nigerian, Somali, Iranian, Iraqi, stateless citizens and former.
